Applying human-centered methodologies to teach and discuss desirable futures.
Newly published in the Journal of Futures Studies
A case study that explores a futures workshop we conducted in collaboration with local faculty at Tamkang University (Taipei) in December 2024. The workshop aimed at enhancing students’ ability to envision desirable futures and combined utopian thinking as well as human-centered design methodology to enable students to overcome cognitive biases, such as the end-of-history illusion. Findings suggest that the integration of psychological insights and the use of interdisciplinary methods can improve engagement with alternative futures. The approach is adaptable for strategic foresight beyond education as it facilitates deep immersion and empathy building in visioning processes.
